Jiro Takamatsu

One of the most influential artists in Japan.

Produced his signature Shadow Paintings from 1964 until the end of his life as a critical inquiry into the formal genesis of painting.

Exhibited at the Venice Biennale (Carlo Cardozzo Prize, 1968), the Paris Biennial, the Sao Paulo Biennial and Documenta 6.

Major retrospectives took place at the National Museum of Art in Osaka (1999), the Chiba City Museum of Art (2000), the Fuchu Art Museum (2004), the Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art (2004) as well as the Henry Moore Institute (2016).

He was in included in group shows at the Guggenheim (1971), Centre Pompidou (1986), Yokohoma Art Museum (1994) and the Guggenheim SoHo (1994)
