From Tanya's celebrated series of drawings in ink on paper. Described by the artist as drawings of paintings that I want to make. Each iteration in the series is uniquely numbered and named a Line Paintiing. There are 5 groups in the series. The first shown in 2014 with Alex Eagle on Walton Street (Matisse Blue), the 2nd made at The Mayor gallery August 2015 (Navy Blue), from which this work derives). The third made in Tanya's studio at The Lamp Works (Green), the fourth (Seventies' Red/Orange) made over a weekend at the The Mayor Gallery and subsequently shown there. A fifth group that has brought the series to a close (Phthalo Blue) was made in Carriage Hall, Covent Garden, 2021. The Line Paintings (small) all share the same dimensions (142.5 x 102.5 cm). Larger Line Paintings were made in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Described as powerful, beautiful, strong and tender all at once the works not only describe Ling's ambition but reflect her ability to produce, seemingly effortlessly, an infinite variety of what could be claimed is the same work. These works on paper mark her departure from making commissioned fashion drawings.
