PULPO GALLERY is delighted to congratulate David Hanes on completing his Master of Arts in Painting at the Royal College of Art, London—one of the world's leading institutions for postgraduate art and design. This milestone marks an important moment in the artist's evolving practice and we are proud to accompany him on the next chapter of his career.
Born in Canada in 1987 and based in Berlin since 2014, Hanes has developed a distinctive painting practice shaped by travel, memory, and direct encounters with landscape. Beginning with plein-air sketches made during his journeys, his works later evolve into expressive oil paintings and watercolours in the studio, where lived experience is filtered through time and recollection. Colour becomes a vehicle for sensation, balancing immediacy with reflection and transforming fleeting moments into emotionally resonant paintings.
Hanes has exhibited internationally with galleries and institutions including Mott Projects, Zepster Gallery, White Noise Gallery, Open Forum, and Platform by David Zwirner. In 2024, he was recognised by the Hopper Prize, further affirming the growing international attention his work continues to receive.
PULPO GALLERY looks forward to presenting David Hanes' first solo exhibition with the gallery in Spring 2027. Further details will be announced in the coming months.
