"I find it particularly exciting to explore the border between figuration and abstraction. My most recent works include figurative elements in addition to completely abstract passages. I like the contrast between complete detachment, where painting is completely free, unrestricted by the limitation of a (signifying) form – and figuration, in which ratio is predominant. I try to achieve this by varying the density of different techniques. [...]"
Justine Otto was born in 1974 in Zabrze, Polen and studied between 1996 and 2003 Fine Arts / Painting at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. Her monumental, highly artistic works have been exhibited worldwide including at the Museum Abtei Liesborn in Wadersloh, Germany; polarraum Hamburg, Germany; Goethe Institut, Washington D.C.; Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf, Switzerland; Museum for Modern Art, St. Petersburg, Russia and at Christine König Galerie in Vienna, Austria.
